We had to say a sad goodbye to our old man Chubbs this morning.
Chubbs joined us from Hull and East Riding ferret rescue seven years ago when we went looking for a companion four our hob Jerry who had just lost his brother. He was a year old and came from a litter of all binos . He was big, fat and very fluffy so we nicknamed him Chubbs while we picked out a name for him but nothing else seemed to suit so Chubbs he remained.
Jerry and Chubbs moved to Wiltshire six years ago and got a new home in a ferret court which they loved. True to ferret maths it seemed too big just for two so they got company in the form of three sisters who both the boys loved. Over the years we introduced more ferrets and he was always the gentleman and made friends easily. He really enjoyed going out with the racing team and meeting his public but in the last year age caught up with him and he was enjoying his retirement at home.
Three weeks ago he became frail and we knew life in the shed was too much for him so he came indoors to live. He was happy to eat, sleep and spend half an hour of playtime pottering round the garden with his mates. Right up until yesterday it seemed he would go on for a while but he had other plans. He was simply waiting for his Dad to come back from six months away before he said his goodbyes.
He went peacefully in his sleep within 24 hrs of his dad coming home. We are all very upset but he had a good long life and a peaceful end. Dook on over the bridge Chubbs, say hello to Tom, Jerry and Baby for us and we will meet again soon.
All our love Liz, Bill, Will, Ben and the fuzzets xxxx
